Can the Supreme Being be unchangeable, omnipotent (all-powerful) and immortal (cannot die) and be dead at the same time?

It is a popular belief among professed Christians that Jesus Christ is the Supreme Being. On the surface it sounds very good. After all, Jesus Christ is being given honour and high regard and what honour could be considered too high to give to Jesus? While it sounds very good to say that Jesus Christ is the Supreme Being, in reality, this is an extreme position that actually undermines the truth and sense of the gospel. The truth is that Jesus Christ is really the Son of God. Therefore, He is God by nature but he is not the Supreme Being. When the Bible says that there is One God, it is referring specifically to the Father as the One Supreme Being who is above all (Eph.4:6). To some people the distinction might seem trivial but it is really very fundamental and far-reaching.

Supreme Being Immortal

The question is this: Can the Supreme Being be unchangeable, omnipotent (all-powerful) and immortal (cannot die) and be dead at the same time? The most fundamental truth of the gospel is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God died in our place so that we might be set free. This is the greatest manifestation of love as Jesus Himself said “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down His life for His friends” (John 15:13). But if we are saying that Jesus Christ is the Supreme Being who is unchangeable, all-powerful and immortal we are denying that He died.
Those who say that Jesus Christ is the Supreme Being need to give an answer to this.
The position simply cannot be defended. The popular explanation that people try to give is that it was the human body that died, not the Divine Being. To them, God simply put on flesh as one would put on clothing. Then he simply laid it off at Calvary. In that case, what is the sacrifice that was made for us? Is this great manifestation of love, in giving One’s life for another, only a farce in which the real Person who supposedly died was alive and well elsewhere?

The truth is that Jesus Christ did not just put on flesh. He became flesh (Heb. 2:9, 14, 17). He died. He truly gave His life for us. And while He was dead the universe was not left on ‘auto-pilot’. The Supreme Being, God the Father – the Source of all life, who absolutely cannot die – He raised His Son from the dead and has highly exalted Him and given Him a name that is above every name (Gal. 1:1; Phil. 2:5-11).

An introduction to the programme, titled ‘Behold Your God, seeks to provide a genuine view of God, putting the pieces of revelation on Him. Clarifying for example the plan of salvation, the series broadcasted as the programme “Behold your God,” is to bring you into an awareness of God, His Son, After Life, Judgement among other topics. It makes no sense to dismiss what you don’t understand as a mystery. You owe it to yourself to delve into scripture, and God in striving to understand.

The Behold Your God, an audio series, has 12 titles in all as follows: (i) Look at Jesus (ii) The Sum and Focus of Biblical Christianity (iii) The Origin of Sin (iv) Did God Require the Death of His Son (v) What is the Relationship Between The Father and The Son (vi) Should the Holy Spirit Be Worshipped (vii) God’s Ideal in Dealing With Conflicts (viii) God and the Massacres of Ancient Israel (ix) Divine Providence in the Rise and Fall of Nations (x) The Mystery of God’s Will and the Concept of the Church (xi) Was the Sabbath a Yoke Imposed By God (xii) What Type of Sovereign is God

This series “Behold Your God” helps you in your quest, and as a guide on how to better prepare yourself for Judgement according to Hebrews.

It’s a reasonable basis for accessing any point in keeping with general principle.

Justice and Mercy left undone by persons placing emphasis on minor matters such as money is one principle I address. Questions are being invited which will be answered within 24 hours. In the end, please look at Jesus. Join me as we look at Him together, and you are welcome to apply the guidelines I provide in accessing information.

Bless You All.

THE FAITH ON WHICH I STAND
(Confession of Faith):

“There is one God – Jehovah, and Jesus Christ is His only begotten Son who perfectly reveals His character.”

The truth is not the Bible; the truth is in the Bible.

God is good; God is love. God is not wicked and selfish (as popular religions make Him out to be).

Of all the various ideas and philosophies that attempt (or seek) to explain the existence of evil in the face of a good, almighty and omniscient God there is only one perspective that is consistent with itself (in terms of its implications). That one perspective – the truth – is that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the express image (or perfect revelation) of God’s character (Heb. 1:1-3). All other perspectives, in their implications, portray God as being wicked and selfish.

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.” St. John 17:3.

“Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:5.

God is the Saviour, not the destroyer

Given that there is a God who is almighty, omniscient and good, the only explanation for the existence of evil that is consistent with itself in all its implications is that it is not in God’s character to destroy people. Therefore, evil will be brought to an end in a manner that is consistent with God’s loving, humble and peaceful way of operating.

The basis for this thought is Jesus Christ. Being the Son of God, the perfect revelation of God’s character, it should be accepted that God (in accordance with Jesus’ portrayal of Him) is not of a spirit to destroy men’s lives, but rather to save them.

If evil is not self-perpetuating, then it must come to an end unless God preserves it, which is contrary to His character to do; but He can and will certainly save those who reject evil and accept Him.

“But He turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.” Luke 9:55, 56.

Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Isaiah 59:1,2.

God’s wrath is the hiding of His face from those who reject Him, which leaves them without protection from the myriad evils that have been caused by sin.

LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled. Psalms 30:7.

Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. Psalms 143:7.

God consistently does good and no evil at all. Thus, for example, the Father did not kill His Son on the cross nor require His death in man’s place. The Son volunteered to take man’s place and bear the consequences of sin in man’s behalf. Jesus said: “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself”. John 10:17, 18.

It is SIN that destroys! GOD is the Saviour. Sin is the destroyer. We are being saved by GOD from SIN and its consequences, not from GOD and some arbitrary penalty that He prescribes. SIN causes death, both physical and eternal. Death is not a penalty that GOD prescribes and executes. Death is a consequence of SIN that we suffer when we reject Divine protection. Divine protection comes in at least two forms: (1) GOD’S LAW (2) GOD’S GRACE. God did not require the death of the sinner; neither did He require the death of His Son in the sinner’s place. Such is the philosophy behind pagan sacrifices. Bible Christianity holds that the sinner faces death on account of his alliance with sin, which causes death. God, through Christ, offers salvation from sin and its ultimate consequence.
